For public events where members of the general public will be on or beneath the staging, a structural design check by a competent person is strongly recommended and is often required by your event licensing authority. We design all our public event staging to the appropriate loading standard for the intended use and provide written confirmation of the loading class and structural basis to support your event management plan. Where your licensing authority requires a formal structural engineer’s certificate, we can arrange this as part of our service.
The load capacity depends on the design — the bay spacing, board arrangement, standard specification and load class applied. We design every stage to the load class appropriate to its intended use. A standard performance stage for a community event is typically designed to 4.0 to 5.0 kN/m² to accommodate dynamic loads from performers. Where heavy PA equipment, lighting rigs or other point loads are involved, we increase the design load class accordingly. We confirm the permitted loading on every handover certificate.

For a straightforward community event stage we can typically design and erect within a week of instruction. Yes — we regularly erect temporary scaffold stages in community halls, school halls and public buildings across the Furness Peninsula. For indoor staging we use appropriate floor protection under all base plates, plan the erection sequence to work within the constraints of the building, and ensure the scaffold structure does not apply any loads to the building fabric that it cannot safely carry. We confirm headroom, access and floor loading requirements at the initial consultation stage before proceeding.
We carry out a pre-event inspection on the morning of your event and assess the weather conditions at that time. Our temporary stages are designed to withstand normal wind and rain conditions, but for very high winds we may advise restricting use or postponing the event until conditions improve. We provide wind speed guidance on every handover certificate and remain available throughout your event for advice.
